This is a common question, with many correct answers.
There is usually only basic infrastructure in place outside the main cities and big airports in most African countries. This coupled with the rugged terrain and distances means it sometimes costs more than the world average to have supplies and tourists moved around. The closest town or convenience store could be hundreds of kilometers away from your lodge, sometimes even more!
Having said that, many properties have meals, facilities, and most activities included within the cost of your stay. It is possible that once you book your trip, you won’t need to pay for anything else.
The one thing that you will need to plan for is tips. This is something that we leave to you to decide and implore you to be generous should you get outstanding service :). Look out for the staff tip box to ensure your contribution reaches the staff at the back of the house.
Yes you can. Albeit you will be staying in places that will have basic amenities, the experience will be surreal. You may not be able to stay at locations that are inside the national parks, but you will save on bed night taxes which could be used to add activities. These options are usually not inclusive of all meals and beverages.
Another great option for saving on the cost would be to depart on what we call set departures. These are trips that are scheduled on fixed dates hence require you to be flexible with your travel dates. Rest assured these encompass the country highlights most of the time. Be prepared to share a game drive vehicle and accommodate your travel companions schedules.

For group bookings of more than 6 people, we strongly recommend having confirmed booking at least 12 months in advance for a camp that you specifically want to visit.

Although the camps and lodges are fitted with the internet, this can be intermittent and limited in speed and reliability. There are satellite phones and radios available for emergencies. Bring comfortable clothing on your trip. A pair of good grip sneakers and long pants will be very handy for treks, if this is included in your packages. For your game drives, it is recommended you wear neutral color clothing (green, beige, brown, white, khaki). Pack shirts and tops with long sleeves even in the summer as it will help protect you from the sun and mosquitos (unless you are traveling to one of our mosquito free destinations). Activewear and outdoor clothing gear will serve you well as it is comfortable, breathable, and quick drying for the laundry turnaround time. Jeans or trousers are recommended for evenings on cooler days. Jackets or sweaters are more useful in the early mornings and late evenings. If the weather is wet, a light weight water proof windbreaker will be very useful. A torch is helpful for getting around camp or to/from your safari vehicle after sunset. A pair of slippers/open shoes will be handy to wear around your lodge or the pool/beach. Pack a pair of your own binoculars if the budget allows so you dont miss out on the action while you're on safari. Bring a camera/phone and its chargers to ensure you can capture the memories and make them last a lifetime. Don’t forget a few essentials; sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, insect repellent, moisturizer and lip-balm. Avoid bringing unnecessary jewellery and valuables that risk being misplaced while you are on the go from destination to destination.
In almost all the places we sell, there is never a TV in the room. And you will soon realize that you will not miss it.
Sit around a camp fire, also know as Bush TV, and gaze into the flames.
Have fun. Put away your gadgets and leave your troubles aside. Take in the beauty that is around you. Don’t be shy to make new friends.
